Monte Kent Melton

September 12, 1963 — October 20, 2022

Monte Kent Melton, 59, passed away at his home in Altus, Oklahoma on Thursday, October 20, 2022. Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 in the Kincannon Memorial Chapel. Inurnment will follow in the Dryden Cemetery, northeast of Hollis, under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

Monte Kent Melton was born to Billy J. Melton and Dorothy Thompson on September 12, 1963 in Frederick, Oklahoma. He was raised by his mother, Dorothy. As a child, teenager, young man, and mature man, Monte enjoyed life. His interests changed as he grew older, but there was always something he was interested in doing, interested in learning and he never quit trying. Monte loved fishing, hunting, music, working on cars, racing cars, and demolition derbies. He loved sports, especially Dallas Cowboys, OU, and OKC Thunder. He was an avid collector of Coca Cola memorabilia. Monte was a true Jack-of-all trades. He could fix almost anything.

He was an ardent fisherman. He fished farm ponds, rivers, deep sea fishing. It didn’t matter where; just give him a fishing pole and some bait.

He loved cars and anything mechanical. He raced cars and participated in demolition derbies. In fact, he won a trophy with his demolition car. He was a great mechanic and even owned his own business. After he became too disabled to work on cars, his family and friends relied on his diagnostic skills.

When Monte became too disabled to do many of the physical activities he enjoyed, he found new interests. Along with his love of listening to music, Monte decided to learn how to play the guitar. He was always looking for and participating in new interests and hobbies.

Monte had many friends that he loved, and he loved his family. In a recent conversation, Monte expressed his happiness at having the honor of raising a son. He recently moved back to Altus to live with his brother and was very happy to be with family again. He also accepted God and Jesus into his life and was right with the Lord.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two siblings, Tammy Melton Wilhelm and Kerry Dee Melton; brother-in-law, Pat Pat Dougherty; and grandparents, Lewis and Lillie Thompson.

Monte is survived by his brother, Kelvin Gene Melton; Angela Scheets, his friend and mother of his only child, Austen Kent Melton; aunt, Kathy Ishcomer; special cousins, Lavelle and Terry Ishcomer; friend, Kevin Riggs; and many nieces and nephews.
