Alice Gail Starkey, 78, Altus, died Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at Southwestern Medical Center in Lawton, Oklahoma. Cremation services and inurnment in the Ft. Sill National Cemetery have been entrusted to Kincannon Funeral Home in Altus, Oklahoma. A Celebration of Life for Gail will be held at a later date at the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Altus.
Gail Miner was born October 12, 1937 in Utica, New York to Ken and Ruth (Collins) Miner. She graduated from New Berlin High School, New Berlin, New York with the class of 1955. Her family moved to Marysville, California in the summer of 1955. She attended college in Marysville and attained her Associate of Arts Degree. Gail married Norman Starkey, the love of her life, on September 27, 1958 in Sacramento, California. The Starkey's moved to Barstow, California where they each worked in Civil Service at the Marine Corps Supply Center. Gail retired following 18 years of Civil Service in 1990. In their retirement years, the Starkey's volunteered their time with the Mobile Missionary Assistance Program (MMAP) traveling and building churches, campgrounds, homeless shelters and boys homes for 10 years. Gail was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Altus and enjoyed crafts and playing the organ.
Gail was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Bruce Miner and a granddaughter, Abigail Starkey.
She is survived by her husband, Norman, of Altus; three sons, Norman Starkey, II of Girdwood, Alaska, Paul Starkey and wife, Lynn, of Sweet Home, Oregon, and Timothy Starkey of Marshville, Missouri; a sister, Mary Harmon and husband, Jack, of Mt. Park, OK; a brother, Bill Miner and wife, Cindy, of Washington State; five grandchildren, Autumn, Ashley, Amy, Shelby and Thomas; five great grandchildren and many friends.
