Arthur Franklin "Red" Rankhorn

Arthur Franklin “Red” Rankhorn, 86, Altus, passed away Friday, October 14, 2022 at Magnolia Creek Nursing Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2022 in the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Daniel Ingram officiating. Burial will follow services at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

Arthur was born October 18, 1935 in Dibrell, Tennessee to James Finley and Minnie Lee (Green) Rankhorn. He attended school in Dekalb County, Tennessee and entered the United States Air Force in December of 1955, being stationed at Altus Air Force Base. He was honorably discharged, attaining the rank of Airman 2nd Class, the morning of December 18, 1959, and married Joretta Fisher that same evening. Red worked for Gilt Edge Farms until 1970 when he bought the distributorship in this area. He sold it in 1980 and began working Haliburton Services in Burns Flat, Oklahoma, until 1985 when he was laid off due to the slow down in the oil and gas industry. Red drove a truck hauling room modules for about 3 years, then, he began working for Altus High School as a custodian, retiring in 2002. Red was retired for about 2 months when he decided to work for Wilmes Ford, Lincoln Mercury as maintenance man for several years. Red finally retired for good and stayed home, caring for his wife and daughter.

Red was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joretta; brothers, Shadie, Robert, James and John Lenard Rankhorn; sisters, Ona Mae Roberts, Edna Tenpenny, and Magalene Rankhorn; daughter-in-law, Melanie Dawn Rankhorn.

Red is survived by his son, James Rankhorn and wife, Patricia; his daughter, Janet Rankhorn; his grandson, Kadry Rankhorn; brother, Billy Ross Rankhorn and wife, Carolyn; two sisters, Betty Jean Bowdin, and Lee Ella Young; step grandchildren, Ashley Wells and husband, Brad, Crystal Woodward, and husband, Gregory, and Michael Wilds; three step great grandchildren, Ethan, Dylan, Zakary Woodward; and a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
