Benjamin F. Hinton, Jr., 68, Altus, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2015 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Saturday, February 21, 2015 at Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Bobby Laws officiating. Burial with Masonic rites will be in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home. Benjamin F. Hinton, Jr. was born on December 6, 1946 in Robeline, Louisiana to Benjamin F. and Alice May (Cordova) Hinton, Sr. He graduated from the Natchitoches High School in Louisiana and enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1965. Ben served during the Vietnam War and received numerous medals including the Airman's Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with four Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with silver Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal with bronze Service Star, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, Humanitarian Service Medal, Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Award with four Oak Leaf Clusters and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Device. He also attended the Community College of the Air Force. Ben retired from the Air Force as a Tech Sergeant in 1991. In the early 80's, he worked for the Altus Love's on North Main and Altus Air Force Base Commissary in the early 90's. In his spare time, Ben enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Altus Masonic Lodge #62, where he was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Cleo Butler, and a brother, Mickey Dale Hinton. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Mary, of the home; a son, Rodney Long and wife, Helena, of Lawton, OK; two daughters, Linda Trachman and husband, Mike, of Altus, OK and Melinda Long of Oklahoma City, OK; nine grandchildren, Steven Roppolo of Altus, OK, Brandon Trachman of Oklahoma City, OK, Robert Long of Lawton, OK, Rodney Long of Japan, Vanessa Long of Lawton, OK, Brooke Ringer and husband, Robert, of Oklahoma City, OK, Justin White of Oklahoma City, OK, and Zachary Cypert and Ezekiel Cypert, both of Oklahoma City, OK; five great grandchildren, Kellie, Sidney, Arianna, Mackenzie and Carter; three sisters, Ethel Moak , Sally Doughty and husband, Ted, and Gloria Terina and husband. Nick, all of Louisiana; and three brothers, Danny Hinton , Neil Hinton and Jerald Hinton, all of Louisiana. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 PM Friday at the funeral home. Additional parking for the service is available behind the funeral home, Best Western to the South or Western Sizzlin’ to the North.
