Berniece Charlene Carroll, 86, Altus, passed away, Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at English Village Manor. Funeral services have been scheduled for 10:00 AM, Friday, July 25, 2014 at the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Rev. Kevin Baker officiating. Burial will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. Berniece Charlene Gardner was born July 30, 1927 to Charles C. and Aurora Belle (Winters) Gardner near Lone Wolf, Oklahoma. She grew up in southwestern Oklahoma and attended the Soldier Springs and Warren Schools. Berniece and Coy L. Carroll were united in marriage on February 25, 1946 in Vernon, Texas. To this union two children were born, Sharon Kay Carroll and Charles L. Carroll. She was the office manager and bookkeeper for Carroll Trenching Service. Berniece was an avid dancer and was the dance instructor and founding member of The Silver Belles. She won the KWHW Older American of the Year in 1998. She also enjoyed crocheting in her free time. Berniece was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She had many friends and was loved by all. Berniece is preceded in death by her husband; a son, Charles L. Carroll; a granddaughter, Leslie Neyman; and eight brothers and sisters.
She leaves behind one daughter, Sharon Cope and husband, Stan, of Altus, OK; six grandchildren, Calvin DeWeese and wife, Deana, of Iowa Park, TX, Kim Dickson and husband, Blake, of Altus, OK, Shannon Owens and husband, Shawn, of Katy, TX; John Michael Weatherford and wife, Shari, of Mineola, TX; Don Cope and wife Staci of Altus, OK; Shannon Lovett and husband Scott of Chattanooga, OK; 23 great grandchildren, Whitney Laster and husband, Josh, Madison DeWeese, Corde DeWeese, Marlee DeWeese, Cable DeWeese, Taylor Barnes, Morgan Dickson, Taylor Dickson, Bailey Dickson, Tori Weatherford, Emberly Weatherford, Rustyn Weatherford, Matthew Owens, Austin Owens, Emilee White, Keely Neyman and Avery Neyman; Jacob, Allison and Reagon Cope; Makenzie, Sara and Gracie Lovett; three great great grandchildren, Autumn, JT and Korven; a sister, Helen Ogles of Horizon, TX; as well many friends. The family will receive friends from 6:30 – 7:30 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
