Betty C. Edwards

Betty C. Edwards, 78, of Altus, passed into the arms of her Savior, Thursday morning, May 10, 2012 at her sister’s home. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 14, 2012 at Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Dr. Jeff Moore and Dr. Donald Whitchard officiating. Burial will follow at the Frederick Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. Betty was born June 18, 1933 near Hollister, OK to George H. and Ada Lorena (Pippen) Curtis. She attended school and graduated valedictorian from Hollister High School. She attended Draughos Business College in Wichita Falls, TX. Betty married David D. Edwards September 3, 1955 in Hollister, OK, and they made their home in Frederick, OK where she worked for the Lone Star Gas Company for 12 ½ years. She left the gas company to become a homemaker and care for their two children, Catherine Elizabeth and Michael David. The family moved to Altus where they live for six years, and then moved to Alexandria, LA. While living in Alexandria, Betty reentered the work force with the Farmer Home Administration, where she worked as a leasing specialist for 15 years. After retiring in 1995, she and David moved back to Altus to enjoy their retirement years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Altus, OK. Betty was a voracious reader and enjoyed attending the monthly Altus Library book reviews. She had great fun spending time with her brother, Fred, shopping with her sister, Fran, and enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow to adulthood. Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David, December 15, 1997; and one son, Michael David Edwards, April 16, 1969; a granddaughter, Rachael Elaine Whitchard; three sisters -in-law, Patricia (Pat) Curtis, Mildred Edwards, Vera Edwards; five brothers-in-law, J.C. (Charlie), William P. (Bill), Harvey and Gordon Edwards, and Paul Dearing. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Catherine (Cathy) and Rev. Donald R. Whitchard, of Muskogee, OK; one sister, Mary Francis (Fran) Reimer, of Altus, OK; one brother, Fred Curtis, of Altus, OK; two sisters-in-law, Sybil Edwards of Texas and Emma May Fondren of Texas; one granddaughter, Amanda Kathleen Whitchard of Chickasha, OK; one grandson, Robert Michael Whitchard, of Muskogee, OK; and many nieces and nephews. The family will host a visitation for family and friends Sunday, May 13, 2012 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Kincannon Funeral Home.
