Betty Jo (Bates) Osborne, 87, of Altus, OK passed away January 8, 2014 at Plantation Village Nursing Home. Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, January 13, 2014 at Elm and Hudson Church of Christ with Frank Bellizzi, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. Betty was born October 23, 1926 in Frederick, Oklahoma to William Homer and Della May (Hunter) Bates. She was raised by her grandparents, Charles and Ophelia Bates in Olustee, Oklahoma. She attended Olustee School, graduating as Salutatorian of the 8th grade, and Valedictorian of the 12th grade. She was a member of the National Honor Society for four years, and crowned basketball queen in 1943. Betty married Bill Osborne December 9, 1944 in Mangum, Oklahoma. To this union, one son, Jimmy Dan was born. She worked as a switchboard operator for four years. She was a teletype operator in San Diego, CA. She was church secretary for thirty years, and a faithful member of the Church of Christ. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her parents; two brothers, Milton Bates and W.C. Bates; a sister, Rosalie Osborne; granddaughter, Sara Kasey Osborne; niece, Rebecca Ann Bates; two half brothers, Marion (Sparky) Spencer and Earl Jones; two brothers-in-law, Virgil Osborne and Howard Osborne; two sisters-in-law, Emmalu Bates and Norma Drury; and a stepmother, Mattie Erwin Bates. Mrs. Osborne is survived by a son, Jimmy Dan Osborne and wife, Peggy, of Grand Prairie, Texas; three grandsons, Cary Paul Osborne and wife, Veronica, of Grand Prairie, Texas, Toby Shane Osborne and wife, Tami, of Eldorado, Oklahoma, and T J Osborne of Allen, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Cameron Casey Osborne, Caitlyn Delaney Osborne, and Samuel Harris Osborne; brother-in-law, Arthur Osborne of Gruver, Texas; sister-in-law, Edith Osborne, Smyer, Texas; half sister, Carolyn Kendall and husband, Dr. George Kendall, of Jay, Oklahoma, step granddaughters, Misty Lewis and Sheila Osborne; step great-grandchildren, Jessica and Jordan Lewis, and Dakota Embrey; double niece and nephew, Sherry Lee and Gary Osborne and wife, Peggy; many other nieces, nephews and friends. The family will receive family and friends from 2:00 -4:00 p.m., Sunday, January 12, 2014 at Kincannon Funeral Home.
