Betty Jean

Betty Jean (Russell) Box, 84, former Altus resident of Vernon, TX, passed away on Friday, December 6, 2013in Vernon, TX. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at the Kincannon Funeral Home. Private family graveside services will be held at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home. Betty Russell was born on March 3, 1929 to James W. and Anna (Foreman) Russell in Altus, OK. She attended Altus Public Schools and graduated from Altus High School in 1947. Betty and George L. Box, Jr. were united in marriage on May 30, 1947 in Vernon, TX. He preceded her in death in January of 1994. She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Altus, OK. She loved watching her grandchildren play football and watching Texas Rangers baseball. Much of Betty’s time was spent sewing, quilting and cooking. Betty is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Jerry Russell and Jim Russell; infant brother, Donnie Joe Russell; and a son-in-law, Lane B. Taylor. She is survived by her children, Leslie Taylor and husband, William Toy, of Vernon, TX and Mark Box and wife, Sherry, of Kingston, OK; a sister, Kay Talbott, of Sacramento, CA; two brothers, Carl Russell of Kingsville, TX and John Russell of Escondido, CA; six grandchildren, George L. Rhett Box and wife, Leslie, Ryan Mark Box and wife, Adrienne, Reade Cotney Box and wife, Sarah, Brandon Douglas Cross and wife Lillie, Lacey Jean Ownby and husband, Ken, and Timothy Lane Taylor; and eleven great-grandchildren, John Mark Box, James Rhett Box, Jessie James Box, Skylee Blake Box, Quinton Reade Box, Dyson Grant Lee Box, Adlynn Beth Box, Jacob Lee Martinez and Jordan Lane Martinez, Kaitlyn Ashley Cross and Corey Brandon Cross.
