Bishop James Laws, Jr., 84, Oklahoma City, departed this life on Sunday, January 3, 2021. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at the Church of God Which He Purchased With His Own Blood in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at 3:30 PM at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
James Laws, Jr. was born March 24, 1936 to James and Detsy (Manuel) Laws, Sr. in Bryan, Texas. James spent his youth in Texas before moving to Hollis, Oklahoma. The family then moved to Lubbock, Texas for 18 years before moving to Altus, Oklahoma. He married Loretta Jones in 1975. James worked for the City of Altus in the Sanitation Department for 24 years, retiring in 1996. Later that same year, he and his wife moved to Oklahoma City. James worked his retirement years and was currently employed with the Oklahoma City Public Schools as a bus driver. For the past several years, he pastored the Church of God Which He Purchased With His Own Blood in Guthrie, Oklahoma. James enjoyed cooking and was passionate about preaching the Gospel and serving the Lord.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three children, Velma Joyce Laws, Robert Lee Laws and James Henry Laws, and two sisters, Lorene Riggins and Elvira Wynn.
Survivors include his wife, Loretta; 10 children, Sandra Powell, Billy D. Laws, Joe Wayne Laws, Ralph Eugene Laws, Jessie Ray Laws, Cathy Valentine, Zappard Jones Lemons and husband, Ray, Rhoda Hall, Gennifer Jones and Winfred Ray Jones; two sisters, Cora Lee Lipscomb and Jean Smith; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; 5 generations inclusive; and many other family members and friends.
Viewing for Bishop Laws will be held at the Kincannon Funeral Home on Saturday, January 9, 2021 from 8:00 am – 8:00 pm, Sunday, January 10 from 1:00 pm to 5:00pm and Monday, January 11 from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm.
