Our beloved mother, Bobbie June Ashcraft, 91, gained her angel wings on July 14, 2024, at 12:16 AM and entered Heaven’s Gates. She will be loved and missed until the end of time. Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 12, 2024, at the Altus City Cemetery with Celebrant Amy Borazjani officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the care of Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
Bobbie was born on June 11, 1933, in Plainview, Texas to Cecil and Eva Mabry Allen. They had had three daughters, Bobbie, Frances, and Kay. The family moved to Duncan, Oklahoma where Bobbie would graduate from Duncan High School. She enjoyed school and acquired several lifelong friendships with classmates, especially Zella Fogel. Bobbie and Zella remained best friends for life as they forged through their teenage years with zeal. Our dad referred to them as Laverne and Shirley.
Bobbie and her sisters, Frances and Kay, were closely bonded sisters. Our families would spend week-long vacations together in Missouri and Texas. Plus, the same shared quality time was spent with the Ashcraft side of the family too. We felt blessed to have this unique cohesiveness.
Bobbie June Allen married her true love, Kenneth Wayne Ashcraft, on July 5, 1953, in El Campo, Texas. They raised three children, Terri, Sherri, and Kenny primarily in Altus, after purchasing the Dairy Mart Drive Inn in 1963. Together they operated their family business for fifteen years. During this time, they also bought and operated several businesses. Bobbie bought Altus Fabrics in the late 1970's. She was a successful businesswoman. She taught sewing and quilting classes. She was a talented seamstress and quilter. Many of Bobbie's elaborate quilts won ribbons at quilt shows and county fairs. Bobbie continued quilting, crocheting, and embroidering until her final days. She lost the love of her life on June 7, 2020, after almost 67 years of marriage.
Another one of Bobbie’s interests was fashion. She designed and created apparel in exquisite fabrics like satin, raw silk, cashmere, Burmese silk, luxury cotton, and Pendleton wool. She assisted many brides to be with an array of wedding fabrics to make their special day glow.
Bobbie loved being a mother. She was involved in numerous activities with her children. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, a homeroom mother, and Sunday school teacher. She taught Sunday School for 25 years. She loved all people, young and old. Bobbie always encouraged her children to enjoy a variety of activities such as swimming, piano, dance, cub scouts, karate, guitar, and water skiing.
Bobbie had belonged to the Beta Sigma Phi sorority for 68 years. Bobbie treasured her sorority sisters. She always enjoyed the delightful dinners, dances, and holiday events.
She was a social butterfly and fostered many lifelong friendships with customers, church associations, and local affiliations. Her personal ministry was visiting friends who might be homebound or ill. She made visits to friends in assisted living and took gifts, frappes or desserts.
After Bobbie retired, she devoted her final years to her family and church. Bobbie was always an active church member. She loved serving God and cooking for her family. Retirement allowed Bobbie the freedom to enjoy her three children, Terri, Sherri, and Kenny, five grandchildren, Brooks, Perry, Hannah, Tyler, and Leah, and eight great-grandchildren, Ryley, Dexter, Aubree, Alex, London, Liam, Summit, and arriving soon, Bowie. Nothing made Bobbie happier than having her home filled with the laughter of family. She moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma in 2023, to be closer to family where she lived until her passing.
