Carmen M. (Jones) Rooks, 89, formerly of Altus, passed away Tuesday evening, April 12, 2022, at Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton, Oklahoma. The family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Thursday, April 14th at the funeral home. Graveside services will be at 2:00 pm on Friday, April 15th at the Altus City Cemetery with Calvin Fadenrecht officiating. Services are under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
Carmen was born September 13, 1932 in Gunter, Texas to William Eugene “W.E.” and Bertha M. (Wolfe) Buck. She attended Sherman Public Schools in Sherman, Texas. Carmen and Lester Royce Jones were married May 1, 1948 in Sherman, Texas and to this union three children were born. Carmen was a loving wife, mother and homemaker. When her children were older, she began working as a bank teller for the First National Bank in Tipton and held that position for over 6 years. She then worked at the National Bank of Commerce in Altus for over 20 years, retiring in 1995. Following the death of her husband, Lester, on August 15, 1996, she married Buford W. Rooks on October 9, 2008 in Wichita Falls, Texas. Carmen was a longtime member of the Altus First Baptist Church and enjoyed sewing, fishing, raising her children and spending time with them.
Carmen was preceded in death by her parents, W.E. and Bertha Buck; first husband, Lester; three brothers, John Porter Buck, Joe Frank Buck and Billy Gene Buck; her granddaughter, Lisa Carlynn Heartless; and her sisters-in-law, Jane Buck and Gloria Buck
She is survived by her husband, Buford W. Rooks; two daughters, Beverly Gene Fesmire (Jim) and Patricia Lynn McDaniel (Larry); her son, Nikki Alton Jones (Kay); 12 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren and many friends.
