Carolyn Faye Prescott

d. May 24, 2013

Carolyn Faye Prescott, 68, Santa Fe, New Mexico, died Friday, May 24, 2013 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Memorial services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 6, 2013, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Altus, Oklahoma, with Rev. Kathleen Murray and Rev. Suzanne Mollison officiating. Inurnment of her cremated remains will follow services at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.
Carolyn was born July 5, 1944 in Altus, Oklahoma, to J.C. and Helen Eikner Prescott. She attended Altus Public Schools, graduating from Altus High School in 1962. She graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business in 1966. Her first job was as personnel manager for Neiman-Marcus in Dallas. After several years, she moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico, with her husband, Gerald Watman, where they opened The Santa Fe Mercantile. She also worked as personnel manager for Dillards and taught business math at Los Alamos High School after completing her Masters Degree in Business. Finally, she worked for the State of New Mexico doing research for the Corrections Department, as well as bill tracking/proofing for the State Legislature every year until her death.
As a member of the Pilot Club for Business & Professional Women, she volunteered many hours of work for her favorite city. She was an expert for Santa Fe tourism, able to customize your visit especially for you, seeing to it that you missed nothing & always couldn't wait to return.
To quote a favorite church hymn, "Morning Song," written in the 19th Century, Carolyn's legacy was "to give and give and give again what God” had given her. She gave and gave and gave again until there was nothing left. "...to spend thyself nor count the cost; to serve right gloriously." She gave and gave to all her family, but especially to her daughter, son-in-law, and her two grandsons, whom she adored!
She was grateful for the strong arms of her son-in-law, Caleb Yeider, who was like a son to her, and grandsons, Damian and Javier, who lifted her up when her own strength let her down; and for the love and loyalty of a best friend, Suzy Rutherford, who was always there for her at a moment's notice. They sustained her day by day.
Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Keely Sorsha Justice, two grandsons, Damian Yeider and Javier Yeider, and her son-in-law, Caleb Yeider, all of Santa Fe, NM; her sister, Judith Prescott Hale, of McKinney, TX, two nieces, Cynthia Hale-Rose, of Plano, TX, and Leslie Allison Hale of Dallas, TX, a nephew, Gabriel Prescott Hale of McKinney, TX, and cousins, Richard and Jane Steele of Pampa, TX, Linda Steele Perry of Castroville, TX, Bart and Mary Jo Forbes of Plano, TX, Jo Ann Henry of Lubbock, TX, other close family members, and close friend, Suzy Rutherford, of Santa Fe.
