Charles Wesley Huddleston was born on November 10, 1936, in Elmer, Oklahoma to John W. and Edith F. (Richardson) Huddleston. He grew up in the area and along with his three siblings, Charles attended Southside School at Hess.
He and Melvena JoAnn Bennight were united in marriage on June 27, 1957, and to this union four children were born, Melba, Charles, Kathy, and Gayla. The young couple made their home in Friendship, later relocating to Elmer and settling in Altus in 1966. They divorced in 1981 but remained committed to providing a structured family life for their children.
Charles was a truck driver by trade, traveling the United States for 23 years before an unfortunate back injury ended his career in 1982. When he wasn’t outdoors riding horses or hunting, you could find Charles watching a good western movie at home. He greatly enjoyed attending dances at local senior citizen centers, visiting with friends and listening to bands. Time with his children, grandchildren, and family was greatly cherished. Charles passed away at his home in Altus on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at the age of 88.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Edith; ex-wife, Melvena; siblings, Bobby Dale, Donald Lee, Ruth Moore, and Flora Mae Wilson and her husband, Johnny; son-in-law, Randy Yocham; nieces, Connie Wilson and Nikki Huddleston.
His memory will live on in his surviving children, Melba Crowell and husband, Tim, Charles M. Huddleston and wife, Rachelle, Kathy Anderson and husband, Craig, and Gayla Yocham; nine grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
