Christopher "Chris" Thurmond

Christopher “Chris” Thurmond, 50, Altus, passed away at his home on Saturday, November 5, 2011. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Thursday, November 10, 2011 at the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Pastor Bryan Thurmond officiating. Interment will follow at the Odema Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home. Christopher Scott Thurmond was born on September 1, 1961 in Amarillo, Texas to Jessie and Voda Pearl (Jones) Thurmond. He graduated from Red Bluff High School in California. He married Jeannie Causey on July 4, 2010 in Altus, Oklahoma. Chris served in the United States Air Force from 1980 to 1995 and was honorably discharged as a Tech Sergeant. He then worked for civil service at Altus Air Force Base and worked as a sheet metal shift supervisor. Chris loved the outdoors. He liked to hunt, especially grizzly bears, fish and grill. He liked to work on small motors and was a huge New Orleans Saints fan. Chris was a loving husband and father. His father, Jessie Mart Thurmond, a brother, Bradley Thurmond, and a sister, Linda Lee Thurmond, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Jeannie, of the home; three daughters, Sara Granados of Fairbanks, AK, and Veronica Hunt and Christy Kay Thurmond, both of Altus, OK; two stepsons, Mathew Causey and fiancée, Kayla Baumgartner, and Christopher Yeager and fiancée, Amanda Anthony, all of Altus, OK; four grandchildren, Christian, Kaylah, Gabe and Gweneth; his mother and stepfather, Voda Pearl and Ludray Thibodeaux of Eldorado, OK; five brothers, James Thurmond of Granbury, TX, Mart Thurmond of Medford, OR, Danny Thurmond of Slidell, LA, Jessie Thurmond of Keizer, OR, and Bryan Thurmond of Norman, OK; his mother-in-law, Hazel Causey of Altus, OK; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
