Claudia Jean Sloan, 94, Altus, passed away Friday morning at English Village Nursing Home. Graveside services have been scheduled for 10:00 AM, Monday, August 24, 2015 at the Altus City Cemetery with Erin Martinez officiating. Services have been entrusted to Kincannon Funeral Home.
Claudia Jean Mitchell was born January 25, 1921 to Angus Owen and Ethel Vertie (Ewing) Mitchell in Headrick, Oklahoma. Jean attended school in Headrick for the first five years and then attended and graduated from the Friendship school. Jean attended Cosmetology school in Weatherford, OK. She worked in beauty shops in Hollis and Altus. After WWII broke out, she, along with many ladies, joined the Civil Defense. She became a acetylene welder at Boeing in Wichita, KS. Claudia returned to Altus and began working in a beauty shop. She met her true love, D.A. Sloan and they were united in marriage on May 18, 1950. She and D.A. moved to Madera, CA where she had a beauty shop for many years. They lived in Madera for fifty three years, returned to Ardmore, OK, and after a few years returned to their home town, Altus. She enjoyed knitting, cooking, and working with her flowers in the yard. She was a member of the Methodist Church.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, D.A., three brothers, L.G. Mitchell, Wayne Mitchell, and Harley Mitchell and one nephew, Kenneth Sloan.
She is survived by two nephews, Dwight Sloan, and Davy Mitchell; three nieces, Jan Stallman, Rocky Wilson and Mya Dundzila.
