Coy Udell Watson

Coy Udell Watson, 88, long time Lawton resident, passed away Sunday, February 15, 2015. Celebration of Life services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 19, 2015 at the University Church of Christ, 28th and Cornell, Lawton, OK. Burial services will be held at Boggy Cemetery, south of Olustee, OK under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home. Coy U. Watson was born on September 4, 1926 in Olustee, Oklahoma to Glenn and Martha Elvira (Coe) Watson. Coy was the youngest of 10 children. His family farmed and ranched in the Olustee area throughout his school years. Coy graduated from Olustee High School in 1944. Coy joined the Army in 1945 and served in the 24th Cavalry Rec Troop. Coy was deployed to Japan and honorably discharged in October 1946. Upon returning to the states, he worked as a farmer and truck driver. In March 1948, Coy married Geraldine Kincannon in Olustee, Oklahoma. Coy and Geri resided in Olustee for 2 years before moving to Altus Ok, where Coy worked for the Altus Police Department. In 1953, the family moved to Lawton Oklahoma where Coy joined the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. In addition to being an OHP officer, Coy also officiated high school and Junior High football and basketball games. Coy was inducted into the Oklahoma Officials Hall of Fame in 1987 after 31 years as an official. Coy officiated 4,289 basketball games and 1,501 football games. Coy retired from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol in 1988 and built a home on the Rio Grande River near South Fork, Colorado. For the next 28 years he spent his winters in Lawton and summers in South Fork, CO. Coy was an avid fly tier and spent many years fly fishing the many lakes and rivers in Oklahoma and Colorado. He was a longtime member of the University Church of Christ in Lawton, serving as Deacon. Coy enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, golfing, and teaching fly tying and casting in the Rocky Mountains. Coy is preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Martha Watson, 6 brothers, 3 sisters; wife, Geraldine Watson, and son, Rodney Dale Watson. He is survived by his son, Terry D. Watson of South Fork, CO; a daughter, Renate McBain and husband, Marcus, of Houston, TX; 5 grandchildren, Courtney Bausch, Ryan Watson, Shane Kreamalmyer, Matt Kreamalmyer and Ross Watson; and eight great grandchildren. He was loved by many nieces and nephews along with many, many friends. Viewing in Altus will be held on Tuesday, February 17th at the Kincannon Funeral Home and the family will greet friends from 5-6 p.m. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, February 18th from 1-5 p.m. at the University Church of Christ with the family receiving friends from 4-5 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Tipton Children's Home in Tipton, Oklahoma or the charity of your choice.
