Delmar Donald Schmidt, 76, Altus, passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2013 at his home. Celebration of Life services with military honors will be 1:00 PM Friday, February 1, 2013 at the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Al Davis, Kelli McGuire and Jim Jones officiating. Cremation services are under the care of the Kincannon Funeral Home. Delmar was born on May 21, 1936 in Fenton, Iowa to Walter John Herman and Alice Ida Martha (Laabs) Schmidt. He graduated from high school in Austin, Minnesota in 1955. He served in the US Army and retired as a Master Sergeant. Delmar was a past member of the Christ Way Christian Church, a member of the First Christian Church, past commander of the American Legion and a past commander of the VFW. He enjoyed collecting old pottery and horse training. He loved spending time with his life partner of 17 years, Barbara Griffin. His parents and a daughter, Patricia Carol Walden, preceded him in death. Survivors include his beloved best friend and soul mate, Barbara Griffin, of Altus, Oklahoma; a daughter, Laurie Schmidt of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; four sons, Anthony John Schmidt of Carrollton, Texas; Alan R. Schmidt of Lenexa, Kansas; Delmar Donald Schmidt, Jr. of Kansas City, Kansas; and Douglas Schmidt of Memphis, Tennessee; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and three brothers, Raymond Lee Schmidt, LeRoy Walter Schmidt and Roger Schmidt, all of Austin, Minnesota.
