Dorotha Marie “Dot” Mitchell, 83, Altus, passed away Monday, August 22, 2011 at English Village Manor. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 27, 2011 at the First Assembly Of God, Altus, with Chaplain Erin Martinez officiating. Interment will follow at the Eldorado Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home. Dorotha Marie Mitchell was born June 26, 1928 to Levi Jackson and Stella Mae (McDaniel) Taylor in Eldorado, Oklahoma. Dot grew up in Eldorado and attended Midway School. She met and married James August “Jimmie” Mitchell, her childhood sweetheart on February 20, 1946 in Vernon, Texas. Dot and Jimmie moved to Amarillo, Texas, where they started their family. They moved to Altus in 1955. Dot and Jimmy joined the First Assembly of God Church, where they were very active members for many, many years. Dot was the Sunday School secretary, taught Sunday School, and helped with the Prime Timers. She babysat several children for many years while raising her own family. After her children were grown she went to work at Mi-Tee Kwik Printing and later worked for Enterprise Square Apartments. She then retired to enjoy camping and traveling with Jimmie and being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dot is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jimmie, an infant son, Cecil James Mitchell, four sisters, Florence Coldiron, Geneva Turner, Lela Faye Carter, and Letha Brown, and one brother, J.O. Taylor. She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Pierce of Altus, OK; two sons, Terry Ray Mitchell and wife, Darla, of North Richland Hills, TX, and Gary Allen Mitchell and his wife, Miriam, of Edmond, OK; five grandchildren, Christina Stewart and husband, Richard, of Altus, OK, Bryan Mitchell of Edmond, OK, Scott Mitchell and wife, Tara, of OKC, OK, Michael Mitchell of Watauga, TX, and Melissa Minter and husband, Terry of North Richland Hills, TX; six great-grandchildren, Savannah and James Mitchell, Emili, Andrew, and Shelby Mitchell, and Lucas Stewart; a sister, Edna Mae Morehead of Altus, OK; and a host of other relatives and friends. The Mitchell family will host a visitation Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
