Dorothy Lea Royal, 87, Altus, passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, August 6, 2011 at the Centennial Memorial at Altus City Cemetery with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home. A long-time resident of southwest Oklahoma Dorothy was born in Hollis, Oklahoma on February 3, 1924. Raised in Harmon County, she graduated from Westview High School. As she grew up her family lived in the Westview, Vinson, and Hollis communities. She married Glen Whisenant of Hollis in 1943. He was killed in Europe in 1944 during World War II. At the end of World War II, she married Glenn Royal, also from Hollis. During their married life, Dorothy raised five children and supported Glenn in his Oklahoma high school coaching career in Martha, Gould, Eldorado, and also while he coached at Western Oklahoma State College. Dorothy enjoyed camping and fishing with Glenn in their retired life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Royal, in 1998; her parents, James Henry Bayless and Sallie Leanis (Yoes) Bayless; three sisters, Evagna Stigler, May Lunn, Thelma Bayless; two brothers, James Dowe Bayless and Samuel Scivern Bayless; a grandson, Jeffery Todd Bullington; and two great-grandsons, Tyler Scott Bullington and Zachary Phillip Davis. Dorothy is survived by four daughters, Katie Burrows and husband, Jon, of Temple, Texas, Jan Mendenhall and husband, Bruce, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Cindy Bullington and husband, Terry, of Gould, Oklahoma, and Sallie Allen and husband, Ed, of Yukon, Oklahoma; a son, Chad Royal and wife, Tonya, of Loveland, Ohio; one sister, Omega Green of Hollis, Oklahoma; twelve grand-children and twelve great-grand-children.
