Dorsin Balque of Altus, OK passed away March 16, 2017. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was born December 16, 1934 in Opelousas, Louisiana to Calvin and Alcina Balque. He is the eldest of five children. Dorsin honorably served his country in the United States Air Force for twenty-three years. Upon retirement from the Air Force in 1977, Dorsin went to nursing school, passed the state board on the first try, and was a nurse at Jackson County Memorial Hospital for twenty years. After retiring from his career as a nurse, Dorsin loved watching sports on television, especially the Dallas Cowboys. He also enjoyed playing chess, reading, and spending time with family and friends, particularly, his friend Larry Shelton. Dorsin was a faithful and loyal member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church.
Dorsin is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: John, James, and Mario Balque. He will be greatly missed. Dorsin leaves, to celebrate his life and memories, his wife, Zolia, of fifty-four years; a sister, Lois Ann Moore; and four children: Cynthia Balque-Burns and husband, Bennie Burns; Patrick Balque and wife, Audrey Salton-Balque; Patricia Balque-Haywood and husband, Roosevelt Haywood Jr.; and Sharon Sutton. He also leaves four granddaughters: Victoria Balque-Burns; Jess Burnett; Nicole Sutton and husband, James Foulks; and Brianna Sutton, as well as two sisters-in-law, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitations will take place on Sunday, March 19 from 4:30-6 p.m. at Kincannon Funeral Home. Following visitation, a rosary service will be led by Jim Sweeney. A mass of Christian burial will be held at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church on Monday, March 20 at 10 a.m.
