Dortha Leonard, 92, Duke, passed away Monday morning March 5, 2018 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday, March 9, 2018 at the Duke First Baptist Church with Doug Haught officiating. Burial will follow in the Rock Cemetery, north of Duke, under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
Dortha Atkinson was born on December 20, 1925 to Albert and Ethel (Calloway) Atkinson in Gould, Oklahoma. She attended school in Gould and married Archie Leonard on September 6, 1942 in Hollis, Oklahoma. To this marriage, four children were born. Dortha was a homemaker and the wife of a cotton and wheat farmer. She loved to sew, paint, and spend time with her grandchildren. Her family meant the world to her. She was a member of the Duke United Methodist Church.
Dortha is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Freddie and Mike Leonard; two brothers, Carl Wayne and Albert Glen Atkinson; one sister, Louella Srader; and one brother-in-law, Ronald Zimmerman..
She leaves behind two daughters, Pamela Howze and husband, Preston, and Susan Childs and husband, Jimmy; seven grandchildren, Kimberly Maahs and husband, Michael, Michelle Putnam, Alicia Bales and husband, Jimmy, Sheldon Howze, Candace Solis and husband, Ramiro, Holly Watkins and husband, Jay, and Caylee Childs; 16 great-grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren with one on the way. She is also survived by three sisters, Betty Alexander and husband, Gene, Mary Zimmerman and Judy Haught and husband, Doug; and one brother, Penny Atkinson and wife, Glenda.
The Leonard family will greet friends after the burial at the Duke First Baptist Church.
