Douglas Gene Ballard

Douglas Gene Ballard, 64, of Oklahoma City and formerly of Altus, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.

Lovingly known as Doug, he was born in Altus to Sam Houston Ballard Sr. and Siccola Von (Vick). Doug was one of five children. During his early years, the family relocated to Oklahoma City, where Doug attended school before returning to Altus. He worked in the heating and air industry and was known for his easygoing, social nature.

Doug cherished time spent with family and friends. A man of simple pleasures and a "come as you are" attitude, he brought laughter and joy wherever he went. Known for his playful spirit and love of pranks, Doug always had a joke or surprise up his sleeve. He was an exceptional cook who especially enjoyed grilling. In his later years, Doug found peace in life's quieter moments, taking up whittling and sketching. He could transform a simple piece of wood or a blank canvas into a work of art.

A devoted OU Sooners fan, Doug followed his favorite team's sports passionately.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Sam Sr. and Siccola; and his brother, Sam Houston Ballard, Jr.

He is survived by his children, Justin Hartsell, Jesse Hartsell, Jennifer Hartsell, and Brandon Ballard; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; siblings, Beverly Ballard, Ricky Ballard, and Rhonda Jones; and a dear family friend, David Perry, whom he considered a brother. Doug also leaves behind numerous extended family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Doug will be lying in state daily beginning at 9:00 AM Monday, January 11th, until he will be celebrated at 1:00 PM on Thursday, January 16th, at the Kincannon Memorial Chapel. He will be laid to rest at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Online condolences may be shared at www.kincannonfuneralhome.com.
