Duane R. Brewer

Duane R. Brewer, age 85, former resident of Russell, Oklahoma and long-time resident of Dalhart, Texas passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, in Amarillo. The family will greet friends beginning at noon for a fellowship lunch on Tuesday, August 27th at Russell Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM with Pastor Gary Baird officiating. Burial will immediately follow at the Russell Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service. 

Duane was born on May 2, 1939, to Robert and Edna (Coke) Brewer in Lamesa, Texas. The family relocated to Russell, Oklahoma where Duane attended Centralvue High School and met his future bride, Cecillia Meason. After graduating with the Class of 1957, Duane and Cecillia were united in marriage on July 3, 1959, in Russell. Duane earned a Bachelor of Science and Math degree in 1961 from Southwestern State College, now known as Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford. The young couple made their home in Dalhart in January 1962 and to their union three children were born, Heather, Kyle, and Aaron. 

Duane began his career as an algebra teacher. He later began working at Dalhart Federal Savings and Loan in 1975 as a loan officer. His dedication and work ethic were unmistakable, and Duane worked his way up the corporate ladder. He retired as President/CEO in 2009 and continued to serve on the Board until 2021. Duane served on the local museum board and was a member of the Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce. His community service was recognized when he was named the Dalhart Citizen of the Year in 2002. During his tenure with the Chamber of Commerce, Duane was instrumental in the planning and development of the Veteran’s Memorial in 7th Street Park. Duane enjoyed playing dominos, dining out, and spending time with his family. 

Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Edna; sisters, Marie Brewer, Virginia Cornett, and Ovetta Brewer; brothers, Carol Brewer, Howard Brewer, and Eugene Brewer.  

Those left to honor Duane’s memory are his wife of 65 years, Cecillia; daughter, Heather Fixsen; sons, Kyle Brewer and wife, Stevie, Aaron Brewer and wife, Jerilyn; grandchildren, Ashley Brewer, Zane Fixsen, Kylie Cannady, Alex Brewer, Rhiannon Brewer, Brianne Brewer, and Cole Brewer; great-grandchildren, Gage Brewer, Raiden Scifres, Avarey Scifres, and Kacey Fixsen; sisters, Nadine Allen and Kaye Linders.
