Edmund "Gene" Gifford

Edmund Eugene “Gene” Gifford, 75, Blair, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2012. Funeral services have been scheduled for 2:00 pm, Thursday, June 7, 2012 at the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Brother Lionel Mounce officiating. Burial will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. Gene Gifford was born September 9, 1936 to George Washington and Ruby Jewell (Manus) Gifford in Grandfield, Oklahoma. He attended school in Grandfield. He married Doris Lee Edwards on October 17, 1953 in Grandfield, Oklahoma. Gene was an independent carpet installer for over 20 years in Altus and the surrounding area. He installed flooring and carpet for George C. Wright, J. V. Oden, Capri Home Furnishings, Flair Interiors, Dottie Morgan and Billy Walker Carpets. Gene later served as Building and Maintenance Supervisor for the State of Oklahoma Tourism Department for over 20 years, retiring in 2000. He was a long time member of the Apostolic Truth Church in Altus. Gene enjoyed wood working, old cars and guns. His greatest joy came from family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gene is preceded in death by his wife, Doris, of fifty four years; his parents; and a sister, Lula Pauline Strain. He is survived by one daughter, Connie J. Adams of Blair, OK; three sons, Steven E. Gifford and wife Bernice of Ada, OK; Scott Gifford and wife Tami of The Colony, TX; Richard D. Gifford and wife Ingrid of Altus, OK; three sisters, Joyce R. Ward of Altus, OK; Pamela K. Gipson of Lodi, CA; Mary Jo Quinday of Fresno, CA; five brothers, Ronny D. Gifford of Colt Springs, NV; Jerry Gifford and wife Carol of Colt Springs, NV; Phillip R. Gifford and wife Lou of Princeton, WI; Gordan W. Gifford and Thomas C. Gifford both of Altus, OK; nine grandchildren, Michael Gifford; Michelle Fuller and husband Clarance; Nathan Gifford; Tiffanie Bailey and husband Shane; Candice Bierdeman and husband Michael; Aaron Gifford; Dewayne Gifford and wife Ida; Justin Adams and David Adams; five great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Raelyn Fuller, Steven Cash Gifford “My Little Man,” Andrew and Hannah Bailey.
