Elsie Irene Sheets, 87, Altus, passed away Friday morning, November 29, 2013 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at Elm and Hudson Church of Christ with Tom Bailey officiating. Burial will follow at Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. Elsie was born April 24, 1926 in Meade, Kansas to John K. and Marie (Zielke) Cornelsen. She moved to Dalhart, Texas in 1928 and to Arizona in the 30’s. During her junior high years, she lived in California, then moved back to Texas in 1938 and lived with her grandparents, Henry and Sarah Zielke. She graduated from Texline High School and attended business college. Elsie married Wesley Sheets February 17, 1946 in Texline, Texas where she lived until 1984, when they moved to Oklahoma. She was a homemaker and mother raising four children. She was an avid reader, a seamstress, and loved to do hand work and puzzles. Elsie was a member of Elm and Hudson Church of Christ in Altus, Oklahoma. Mrs. Sheets was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Howard Cornelsen. She is survived by her husband, Wesley, of the home; one son, Keith Sheets of Fredericksburg, VA; three daughters, Kathleen Sheets of Richardson, Texas, Janyt May of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Janyce Wood and husband, Bill, of Amarillo, Texas; seven grandchildren, Brent Sheets and wife, Kim, Daingerfield, Texas; Kelli Bigham and husband, Brent, of Bangkok, Thailand; Keith Sheets, Jr. and wife, Daisha, of Peterhead, Scotland; Trey Daniels and wife, Christina, of Kuttawa, Kentucky; Jonathan Daniels and wife, Felicia, of Amarillo, Texas; Shane May and wife, Hope, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Chris May and wife, Amelia, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and 20 great grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Tipton Children’s Home, the Westview Boys Home in Hollis or to the High Plains Children’s Home in Amarillo, Texas.
