Ernest Grimes, 87, Altus, passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2016. Funeral services have been scheduled for 10 am, Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at the Tamarack Road Church of Christ with Dean Bryce officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at 2 pm in the Ft. Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.
Ernest Lee Grimes was born June 25, 1929 to Garland Olen and Mamie Pauline (Drumright) Grimes in Trenton, Tennessee. He graduated from Trenton High School, Trenton, Tennessee, with the class of 1947. Ernest and Joan (Wimberley) were united in marriage on May 21, 1950 in Tennessee. To this union four children were born. Ernest served his country in the United States Air Force from1947 until he retired as a Master Sergeant in 1974. He was an electronics Technician, retiring after 20 years with the Altus Air Force Base Civil Service. Mr. Grimes was a member of the Tamarack Road Church of Christ, having served as an Elder at the Thomas Street Church of Christ for many years and was considered a Bible scholar. He enjoyed reading, gardening, traveling and spending time with his wife and family.
Ernest is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Betty Ann Grimes and Janet Raven; and one brother, Andrew Thomas Grimes.
He is survived by his wife, Joan, of the home; one daughter, Cherryl Sue Grimes; three sons, Guy Mitchell Grimes, Stanley Byron Grimes and Edward Duane Grimes; ten grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; three brothers, Loyd Wess Grimes, Ronald Owen Grimes and Dale Mitchell Grimes; five sisters, Doris Jean Grimes, Jane Grimes, Julie Grimes, Linda Grimes and Rachel Wanda Grimes; and many friends.
The Grimes family will greet friends Monday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Kincannon Funeral Home.
