Eugene “Gene” Watts Bryce, 96, Altus, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at English Village Manor. Funeral services have been scheduled for 10:00 AM Thursday, May 22, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. David Player officiating. Burial will follow in the Restlawn Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. Gene was born October 30, 1917 to W.P. and Willie (Watts) Bryce in Altus, Oklahoma. He graduated from Altus High School in 1936. He studied one year at Altus Junior College and then attended Draughon’s Business College. Eugene married Katherine Bradley on February 22, 1942 in Wichita Falls, Texas. He served his country in the United States Air Corps for three years, receiving an honorable discharge as a Tech Sergeant. He farmed from 1946 to 1975 and worked at the Assessor’s Office as a Fieldman from 1963 to 1980. Eugene also served on the Altus School Board from 1959 to 1975 and as the Altus School Treasurer from 1976 to 1990. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Altus, enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Western Prairie Sams. He is preceded in death by his parents; great-granddaughter, Heather Bryce; two sisters, Sue Hartsell and Robin Tucker; and four brothers, Thurman, Owen, C.F. and James Bryce. Eugene is survived by his wife, Katherine, of their home in Altus; one son, David Eugene Bryce and wife, Karen, of Altus, OK; two grandchildren, Gene Bryce and wife, Patricia, of Altus, OK and Connie Slaton and husband, David, of Mangum, OK; great grandchildren, Gene David Bryce and wife, Stephanie, of Oklahoma City, OK, Kelly Johns and husband, Jarod, of Duncan, OK, Rachael Paxton and special friend, Enrique Lopez, of Mangum, OK, Johnna Phelps of Altus, OK, Caley Slaton of Mangum, OK, Emily Slaton of Blair, OK and Brittany Forster and husband, Steve, of Martha, OK; great-great grandchildren, Sawyer, Sutton, Hunter, Madyson, Bryce, Brooklyn, Landry, Enrique and Colton; one brother, Warren “Corky” Bryce and wife, Irma, of Altus, Oklahoma; a sister-in-law, Frances Kendall of Altus, Oklahoma; and a brother-in-law, Henry Hartsell of Altus, OK. The Bryce family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, May, 21, 2014 at the Kincannon Funeral Home Gathering Room.
