Eva Letha was born in Vernon, Texas to James ‘Grady’ and Gertrude Emma (Ming) Reynolds on October 26,1943. She graduated from Vernon High School in 1962. Eva Letha married Royden James “Jerry” Lucas on August 4, 1962, in Vernon and to this almost 56-year union three children were born, Lisa, Lori, and Greg. She was a devoted mother and Meme. She spent her life living in the Altus and Elmer communities doing what she loved - being a farmer’s wife, loving her family, and supporting her church and community. She was a longtime member of Southside Baptist Church and served as the church clerk since 1976. She was an adjunct on the faculty of Western Oklahoma State College for ten years where she taught classes on floral design. She worked at Falcon Road Glass Company and Petal Pushers. In recent years, she loved working on Friday nights at the General Store of Elmer serving catfish and visiting with customers.

Eva Letha was very active in her community. She was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She held many offices in sorority throughout the years and was selected Woman of The Year seven times. She cherished the lifelong friendships of her sorority sisters. Other organizations she was part of were Heartland of the Southwest United Way Board of Directors, National Cotton Women’s Committee, Erolethian Club, Western Trails Historical Society, Shortgrass Arts and Humanities Council, and Altus Chamber of Commerce. As a member of the Chamber of Commerce, she served on the Military Affairs Committee and Committee of 100 Chairman for over twenty years. She was a community liaison between the city of Altus and the Altus Air Force Base. She loved planning events that connected the Altus community with the Air Force community. One of her favorite events was the Committee of 100 event at Lucas Farms where everyone enjoyed hayrides, campfires, hot dogs, and socializing. All these organizations were important to her because she loved being active and connecting with her community.

Her dedication and service were acknowledged through the many awards and honors she received over the years. Some of her awards included Jackson County Farm Family of the Year 1990, Altus Air Base “Friend of Altus” award in 1999, and past Honorary Commander of the 54th Air Refueling Squadron, 2001-2004. Her most recent recognition in February 2024 was by the Committee of 100 for her unwavering dedication and years of hard work.

She enjoyed traveling, especially going on cruises. She also greatly enjoyed shopping. She could never have enough shoes. Her other pastimes included reading and playing word search games on her phone.

She was proceeded in death by her loving husband, Jerry Lucas; parents, Grady and Gertrude; sister, Venita Ann; and great-granddaughter, Locklynn Nichole Lucas.
