Gary Wayne Hubert passed away on August 4, 2022 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital. He was 68. Services will be at Kincannon Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, August 10th at 10:00 a.m.
Gary is the son of Bobbie Ed Hubert and Shirley Jo (Turner) Hubert. He was born on February 5, 1954 at his grandfather's house on Chalmers Street. He was the oldest of 5 brothers. Gary went to Altus Public Schools including Will Rogers Elementary, Northeast Junior High, and graduated from Altus High School in 1972. He played on the 1971 State Championship football team. After high school, Gary attended Altus Junior College on a baseball scholarship. Gary married his high school sweetheart, Beverly Luebking, and they had two children, Jeff and Melissa.
Gary excelled in sports including baseball, football, softball and bowling. He played in adult softball leagues and coached his son's sports teams. Gary also enjoyed hunting and ranching. He was a valued member of his community where he volunteered as an Altus Jaycee. Gary was a talented man with many skills. His jobs included fireman, prison guard, truck driver, owned his own business, and later retired as an Oklahoma State Fire Marshal.
Gary was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Hubert; nephew, JJ Hubert; stepbrother, Clay Stephens; and his best of friends, Neil Groves.
Gary is survived by his son, Jeff Hubert and wife, Karen; daughter, Melissa Hans and husband, Sean; father, Bobbie Hubert and wife, Jackie; brother, David Hubert and wife, Beverly; brother, Tyson Hubert; stepbrother, Mike Stephens and wife, Manda; grandson, Kaleb Hubert and wife, Sydney; grandson, Brayden Waldroop; granddaughter, Danica Hubert; and grandson, Barret Hubert; and his first great granddaughter, Collyns Hubert
A special thanks to staff at Jackson County Memorial Hospital for making his final days peaceful and to the staff at English Village for loving him and caring for him the past three years.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Altus Animal Welfare Association, 2204 Enterprise, Altus, OK in Gary’s memory.
