Geertruida Johanna “Anne” Vermeulen, a remarkable woman who lived a life of love, faith, and accomplishment. Born on March 20, 1932, in Harlem, Holland, the Netherlands, she was the cherished daughter of J.J. C. Vander Meer and Thearesia (Van Son) Vander Meer. Anne, 92, of Altus, Oklahoma passed away in her home, surrounded by her loving family. A Funeral Service will be held at Kincannon Funeral Home on January 28, 2025, at 2:00PM.
Anne received her education in three prestigious private schools across Europe, which provided her with an academic foundation equivalent to two years of state college. She later earned a degree in theology, reflecting her deep faith and commitment to spiritual growth. Anne was fluent in four languages—Dutch, English, French, and German—she possessed exceptional secretarial skills and held diplomas showcasing her expertise. She had a passion for writing, which she expressed beautifully throughout her life. Her love for travel, swimming, gardening, and frequent visits to the library brought her immense joy and fulfillment. She was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church, Anne actively participated in the Ladies’ Study Group, where her wisdom, kindness, and faith inspired those around her. Her dedication to her faith and community will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
Anne leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and resilience. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched. She is preceded in death by her parents; J.J. and Thearesia Vander Meer, brother; Dick Vander Meer, and sister; Luce Ford. Anne is survived by her three loving children; Michael Wayne Vermeulen and wife, Cathy, James A. Vermeulen and wife, Laurie, and Nancy Cox and husband, Michael “Kelly”, sister; Truus Teuwen Van der Meer, grandchildren; Bobby Vermeulen, Kara Vermeulen, Nathan Vermeulen, Jenae Cox, Nolan Cox (Julia), Pam VanValkenburgh, and August Vermeulen, great grandchildren; Shepherd Cox, Jace Peterson, Ethan and Rileigh VanValkenburgh, special friend; Becky Rose, family friend and caregiver; Theresa Pina.
