George "Bubb" Davis, 96, Blair, passed away Wednesday morning, February 13, 2019, at English Village Manor in Altus. Services have been scheduled for 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 16, 2019 at the Blair First Baptist Church with Rev. Tyler McDowell and Rev. Doug Altom officiating. Burial will follow, with military honors, in the Blair Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
George Harold Davis was born May 18, 1922 to John Fred and Farell Fay (Hawkins) Davis in Greer County, Oklahoma. He had attended City View School and graduated at Blair High School in 1939 and continued his education at Altus Junior College. Bubb entered the United States Navy in December of 1942 and served with the Seabees in the Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged as a Carpenter's Mate Second Class in January of 1946. Bubb married Wanda Jean Smith on June 15, 1946 in Mangum, Oklahoma. He owned Davis Sand and Gravel in Kiowa County in the 1950s and later worked for civil service at Altus Air Force Base. Bubb worked first at the base commissary and retired out of the transportation department in the 1990's. Bubb lived north of Blair by Bird Mountain his entire life with the exception of his time in the military. He also enjoyed farming in his retirement years. Bubb was a member of the Woodmen of the World and the American Legion Post #121 of Mangum, Oklahoma. Bubb enjoyed fishing, and playing games with friends and family.
Bubb is preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, Scott Davis; granddaughter, Misty Wallace and sons-in-law, Ronnie Wallace and Terry Winters.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory two daughters, Elaine Wallace and Phyllis Winters; two sons, Gene Davis and wife, Kathleen, and Mike Davis and wife, Shearl; five grandchildren, Jeff Winters and wife, Stacy, Billy Davis, Laurie Ormiston and husband, Galt, Crystal McDowell and husband, Tyler and Mickey Davis; great grandchildren, Haylie Winters, Kenzie Winters, Harry Ormiston, Harper Ormiston, Kanin McDowell, Sadie McDowell and Cooper McDowell. He leaves behind a special daughter, Saundra Burrow and husband, Dwight; sister-in-law, Geneva Presley; a special cousin, John Story; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorials may be made in Bubb's name to the Misty Michelle Wallace Memorial Scholarship Fund at WOSC in Altus.
