George Martin, III, 86, Altus, passed away Monday, February 16, 2015 at English Village Manor. Funeral services have been scheduled for 2:00 PM, Friday, February 20, 2015 at The Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Jason Duree and Ricky Crouch officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. George William Martin, III was born January 28, 1929 to George and Jeanette (Newby) Martin in Gotebo, Oklahoma. George attended and graduated from Mountain View High School in 1946. He had attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford and Oklahoma State University. George and Nancy Lou Foust were united in marriage May 4, 1962 in Anadarko, OK. He enlisted in the United States Navy on June of 1948 and served on the U.S.S. Burke and the U.S.S. Benner. He served during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged from the Navy in May of 1952. In April of 1954 he joined the United States Air Force. He was temporarily retired with disabilities in August 1961 and permanently retired on February 1963. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant and was the recipient of the Navy Occupation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award and the Air Forces Longevity Service Award. George began a Civil Service Career on July 23, 1962 until his retirement on April 1, 1988.George was a member of the VFW Post 4876 and D.A.V. Chapter 33. George was a member of the Southside Baptist Church since 1982. After his retirement he was a volunteer at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital for several years. He enjoyed yard work, detailing his cars, and above all, spending time with his family. George is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Neoma "Nikki" Jordan; sister, Rosemarie Noland; and brother David A. Martin. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Nancy, of the home; three daughters, Teresa Anderson and husband, Joe, of Altus, OK, Lana K. Robertson of Altus, OK and Donna J. Burris and husband, J.R., of Oklahoma City, OK; two sons, Larry D. Halsted and wife, Kathy, of Oklahoma City, OK and Lyndell K. Halsted of Altus, OK; son-in-law, Jeff Jordan; nine grandchildren, Brian Murphy of Norman, OK, John Holt and wife, Lisa, of Dexter, MO, Julie Trussler of Altus, OK, Angela Mullis and husband, Sherman, of Altus, OK, Crystal Evans and husband, Bobby, of Blair, OK, Shellie Brown and husband, Don, of Shawnee, OK, Duane Pritchard and wife, Cheryl of Bristow, OK, David Patten and wife, Candy, of Oklahoma City, OK, and Robin Patten of Oklahoma City, OK; and sixteen great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 19, 2015 from 6 -7 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Alzheimer's Association or to the charity of the donor's choice.
