Gereta Murphy, 76, passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at her daughters home. Funeral services have been scheduled for 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 9, 2017 at the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Rev. Boyd Whitehead officiating. Private inurnment of cremated remains will take place at a later date. Funeral and cremation services are under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
Gereta Lee Shipley was born December 26, 1940 to Leroy and Velvia Mae (Brinkman) Shipley in Altus, Oklahoma. She attended Altus Public Schools and was a graduate of Altus High School. Gereta and Bill Murphy were united in marriage on November 12, 1956 in Vernon, Texas and to this union four children were born. Gereta was of the Christian faith and was a homemaker while her children were school age. Later, she worked at the Sagamar Motel in housekeeping from 1975 to 1980, then at Jackson County Memorial Hospital for eighteen years, from 1980 to 1998. She then worked at Walmart for fifteen years, from 1999 to 2014, where she was known as "Miss Gereta." She was a member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary where she also enjoyed playing Bingo on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Consequently, she enjoyed her grandchildren on Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; granddaughter, Amber Murphy; grandson, Kyle Thompson; son-in-law, Stephen Booker; sister, Corina Berrong; and step mother, Jo Shipley.
Gereta is survived by her stepfather, Richard Watts and wife, Jewell; three sons; Bill Murphy, Jr. and wife, Terri; Dennis Murphy and wife, Angie; Tim Murphy and wife, Gloria; one daughter, Robin Booker; one sister, Pat Esralian; step sister, Teri Shipley Imhoff; step brother, Jimmy Shipley Warner; thirteen grandchildren, Billy "Little Bill" Murphy, III and wife, Christa; Michelle Murphy; Lee Jay Murphy and wife, Beth; Sally Anderson and husband, Jerry; Laura Williams and husband, Chad; Brian Murphy; Justin Jones and wife, Kristina; Canyon and Amanda Jones; Jason Etheridge; Justin Thompson and wife; Melissa; Kenna Thompson; Tristan Leija and husband, Marcus; nineteen great grandchildren; one great great grandson; numerous other relatives including aunts, uncles, cousins; community friends and her special pet Cockatiel bird, "Buddy."
The Murphy family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at Kincannon Funeral Home.
