Gregory Wayne Speer, 47, Altus, left this life on Thursday, January 8, 2015 after years of battling diabetes and complications following a medical procedure. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 13, 2015 in the Kincannon Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home. Greg was born in Tacoma, Washington on August 10, 1967 to Gayle and “Smokey” Speer. He attended school in Altus, Oklahoma. He worked for the City of Altus for almost 20 years until his recent retirement in 2013. He married the love of his life, Jeni, on August 12, 1988 at the Elm and Hudson Church of Christ. Over their 26 years of marriage, Jeni and Greg have 3 beautiful sons, Michael, age 23, Matthew, age 21, and Jayden, age 8. Greg happily changed his name to “Grumps” when he became a grandfather to Brayln Jade Speer and also, on January 7, 2015, to Blaze Scott Speer. Greg’s other love was cars. He was a member of several car clubs and was presently the Vice President of Vertically Challenged. He has won many awards for his show trucks. Greg will always have a family grateful for the time they had with him and many friends far too numerous to name them all. Rest in peace husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, son and dear friend. May you find rest and comfort knowing you were loved here on this earth Greg is preceded in death by his father, Otis Alvin “Smokey” Speer and grandmothers, Winna Workman and Una “Belle” Walters. He leaves behind a wife, Jennifer; three sons, Michael Speer and his wife, Randi, of Altus, OK; Matthew and Jayden of the home; a granddaughter, Brayln, and a grandson, Blaze. Greg was the son of Gayle and Jim Eakins of Lehigh, OK and brother to Toni Eakins of Altus. He is also survived by his grandfather, Jack Workman of Lehigh, OK. He will be remembered fondly by his mother-in-law, Karen Griffee of Altus, OK; father-in-law, James Hayes and wife, Janice, of Glenpool, OK; sisters-in-law, Cheryl Brouwer of Oklahoma City, OK and Crystal Copeland and husband, Travis, of Glenpool, OK; and a brother-in-law, Scott Hayes and wife, Tisha, of Skiatook, OK. He will also be missed by several nieces and nephews, Courtney Stober, Chris Stober and Caitlyn Stober, and great-niece, Chelsea Conway. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Monday, January 12, 2015 at the funeral home.
