Hal B. Metheny, 79, Altus, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2011 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Memorial service with military honors will be 2:30 PM Friday, April 22, 2011 in the First Assembly of God with Rev. Arlis Moon officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Canute Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home. Hal was born on April 5, 1932 in Muldrow, Oklahoma to Herman V. and Willie E. (Reeves) Metheny. He attended school in Canute, Oklahoma. He enlisted in the United States Air Force on February 25, 1950. He served for more than 22 years and retired as a Tech Sergeant on April 12, 1972. After his retirement, he farmed for many years before retiring. He married Helen Gene Flanary in Altus on September 12, 1983. She passed away in 1986. Hal was a history buff and loved old historical stagecoach trails and national parks. He was a member of the First Assembly of God. His parents, wife, and a sister, Jo Anne Etchison, preceded him in death. Survivors include two stepdaughters, Veda Denise Barnes and husband, Ralph, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Jo Ann Pennington and husband, Shawn, of Greenville, Ohio; two step great grandchildren, Shaun Michael Barnes and fiancée, Ashley Wenzinger, of Greeley, Colorado, and Stephanie Nicole Barnes of Cheyenne, Wyoming; three sisters, Audie Ruth Bonny and husband, Nate, Pat Rogers and husband, Kenneth, and Beverly Maddon and husband, Dennis, all of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and four brothers, Paul Metheny and wife, Billie Jean, of Tupelo, Oklahoma, Larry Metheny and wife, Deloris, of Wilmington, California, Ray Metheny of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Glenn Metheny and wife, Sue, of Ordway, Colorado.
