Howard Gene King

Howard Gene King, 84, Altus, passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Graveside Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at the Restlawn Cemetery in Altus with Daniel Ingram officiating. Services are under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

Howard was born on March 1, 1939 in Olustee, OK to John Robert “Bob” and Katherine M. (Sutton) King. For many years Howard actively participated in his families Custom Harvest business, traveling each summer to Texas, Kansas, Colorado and Nebraska. Howard married Pamela K. Peet on May 30, 1962 in Frederick. In 1962 he began his career in education, teaching at the Rivers Elementary School in Altus. Throughout this career, he served in many educational roles in Altus and Okeene School Districts, including Teacher, Attendance Director, Assistant Principal, Principal, and County School Superintendent. In 1993 Howard began employment with the State of Oklahoma working as an Advocate Defender and then the Program Director of the juvenile detention center in Manitou. He served in this position until his retirement in 2005. Howard was a member of the Elm and Hudson Church of Christ in Altus. He enjoyed golfing and fishing. He especially treasured his time with family.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Katherine; and two cousins, Jan Kastner and Diane Rithaler. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Pamela King; daughter, Kandy Goforth and husband, Michael; and grandchildren, Ashton Brown and husband, Corey and Bradon Goforth.
