Homer R. “Bud” Haney, Jr., 79, Altus, passed away on Saturday, December 25, 2021 at the Lawton/Fort Sill Veterans Center. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, December 30, 2021 at the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Rev. Doug Altom officiating. Burial with Air Force honors will be in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
Homer R. “Bud” Haney, Jr. was born on October 1, 1942 in Walhalla, South Carolina to Homer R. and Ruby Edna (Marcengill) Haney. He grew up in South Carolina and enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1961 and faithfully served for over 26 years. Bud worked as an aircraft mechanic and served two tours to Vietnam. He received numerous medals and awards including the Distinguished Flying Cross, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one Silver Star and two Bronze Stars, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He retired from the Air Force on March 31, 1988 as a Master Sergeant. Bud married Cherie Marie Palmer on September 8, 1979, while stationed at Altus Air Force Base. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Altus, Disabled American Veterans, VFW, and the American Legion. Bud enjoyed collecting trains, trucks, and coins and treasured time spent with his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cherie “Honey Bun” Haney; his parents, a brother, Phillip Haney; and a sister, Ruth Crumpton and her husband, G.T.
Survivors include two daughters, Lisa Ross and husband, Jason, and Elizabeth Hebein and husband, Andrew; four sons, Joe Poulin and wife, Sonya, James Poulin and wife, Deeann, Jeffery Poulin and wife, Kristen, and Jason Poulin; 12 grandchildren, River Hebein, Jacob Poulin and wife, Lesley, Joshua Poulin and wife, Cheyenne, Alicia Rhome and husband, BJ, Branden Poulin, Madison Poulin, Collin Poulin, Aubree Poulin, Remy Poulin, Dustin Poulin, Dylan Poulin, and Gabby Poulin; 8 great grandchildren, Riley, Cayley, Cason, Natalie, William, Cody, Skyla, Noah, and another on the way; two brothers, Oren Haney and wife, Betty and Grahl Haney and wife, Vivian; a sister, Cheryl Brendle; a sister-in-law, Dale Haney; and many other family members and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.
