Ida Mae Carter, 93, Altus, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at Plantation Village Nursing Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 am, Friday, June 22, 2012 at the Tabernacle Baptist Church with Rev. Gregory A. Hawn officiating. Burial will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home. Ida Mae Bussey was born on October 27, 1918 to Nathan G. and Cora (Russell) Bussey in Martha, Oklahoma. She graduated from Altus High School in 1937 and attended one year at Altus Junior College. Ida Mae and Eulan Clarence (Dick) Carter were united in marriage in 1939 in Altus, Oklahoma. To this union, four children were born. She began cooking for Altus Public Schools in 1956 at Washington Elementary, then moved to Central Junior High as head cook, she then moved to Altus High School where she served as head cook until her retirement in 1990. After retiring she substituted for elementary schools and worked for the election board. She was a longtime member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church. Ida Mae was an avid Altus Bulldog, OU Sooner, Dallas Cowboy and Atlanta Braves fan. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, sewing, and crossword puzzles, but her greatest joy was being with her family. Ida Mae was preceded in death by her husband, parents and three sisters, Dempsey Gray, Gertrude Stansell and Nadine Jones. She is survived by two daughters, Linda Holland Copeland and husband, Glenn, of Altus, OK, and Donna Mae Seifried and husband, Dennis, of Weatherford, OK; two sons, Jimmy Don Carter and wife, Deb, of Tuttle, OK, and E. Gary Carter and wife, Nancy, of San Antonio, TX; sister, June Hunt: ; eight grandchildren, Jay Holland and wife, Christina, of Oklahoma City, OK, Mark Carter and wife, Sharon, of San Antonio, TX, Sohn Seifried of Weatherford, OK, Stefan Seifried and wife Anna of Altus, OK, Dallas Carter of Tuttle, OK, Misty Johnson of Moore, OK, Boone Copeland and wife, Kim, of Lawton, OK, Rocky Copeland of Mustang, OK; eight great-grandchildren, Amanda and Emma Carter, Carter Holland, Miranda Uranga, Zoe Johnson, Tresten Pope, Casey and Jonathon Copeland; and many nieces, and nephews as well as a host of friends. The Carter family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday, June 21 at the Kincannon Gathering Room. Memorials may be made at the Tabernacle Baptist Church or the WOSC Foundation.
