Irma Jeane Bryce, 93, Altus, passed away Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 1, 2022 at the Elm and Hudson Church of Christ with Daniel Ingram and Brady Bryce officiating. Burial will follow services at the Restlawn Cemetery.
Irma Jeane was born October 15, 1928 to Osie C. and Elizabeth E. (Dodson) Chenault. She attended Prairie Hill School from first grade to ninth grade, and then attended Altus High School, graduating with the Class of 1946. Irma and Warren A. “Corkey” Bryce were married October 7, 1948 in Wichita Falls, Texas. The two provided a loving, Christian home for their children working on their homestead farms, including their home on the original Altus town site along Bitter Creek. Irma was a dedicated worker and farm hand alongside Corkey all their years. An avid gardener, she loved being outside. She enjoyed blessing others through her handwritten cards and letters, and delicious food. She gave gifts of her sewing, crochet, baking, painting, and home grown vegetables. She also worked at the Planter’s Gin when Corkey was manager and later at the Blossom Shop, arranging flowers and helping with the books. She appreciated spending time with her family in their visits, cards, and photos, and in watching Oklahoma sports. Irma was a long time member of the Elm and Hudson Church, who trusted in God with all her heart and did not lean on her own understanding (Prov. 3:5)
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Corkey; daughter, Janet Lea Bryce; son, Dean Bryce; and her sister, Joyce McCurry.
Irma is survived by her daughter, Brenda McDonald; daughter-in-law, Jeanine Bryce; five grandchildren, Brady Bryce (Donna); Kelly Taylor (Michael); Amber Faske (Jacob); Jamie Libby (Drew); and James “Jimmy” McDonald; ten great grandchildren, Nathan, Lizzie, Taryn, Cameron, Isaac, Judah, Noah, Joy, Lana and Taya; and many friends.
The Bryce family will greet friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday evening, December 31, 2021 at Kincannon Funeral Home.
