Jack O. Smiley, Sr., 87, Altus, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Monday, April 9, 2018 at the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
Jack Owen Smiley was born June 20, 1930 to Dewey and Annie (Adams) Smiley in Altus, Oklahoma. He attended Altus Public Schools and enlisted in the United States Marines in 1946. Jack was honorably discharged from the Marines early in 1950 and returned to Altus. He met Velma Rollins that Spring and the two were married August 12th. Jack enlisted in the Oklahoma Army National Guard, 45th Division, which was activated in the summer of 1950 and Jack was off to basic training, and then on to Korea. Jack was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in the summer of 1952. He was a business owner in the automotive retail industry for many years and served on the Martha School Board for many years until the school closed. Jack was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and tending his pecan groves. He loved his family and enjoyed time spent with them.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bill Smiley; and two sisters, Sina Lou Savage and Erma Jo Adams.
He is survived by his wife, Velma of the home; children; Margaret Ortega and husband, Charles; Jacqueline Roberts and husband, Michael; Jack "Butch" Smiley, Jr. and wife, Mindy; and Raymon Smiley; four grandchildren, Bryan Beane and wife, Kelly; Keaton Smiley and wife, Kirsten; Hayden Smiley; Evan Smiley and husband, Heath; as well as two great-grandchildren, Abigail Beane and Elijah Beane.
The Smiley family will greet friends from 3 to 5 pm, Sunday, April 8, 2018 in the Kincannon Gathering Room.
