James A. Davis, 73, Olustee, died Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at Kincannon Funeral Home with Arlin Reynolds, Vern Moore, Helen Lucke and Max Gunn officiating. Burial will follow services at the Restlawn Cemetery in Altus under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. James Arlton Davis was born January 7, 1939 in Memphis, Texas to Garvis and Nell Kate (Matthews) Davis. He attended Memphis public schools in Memphis, Texas, graduating in 1957, and attended West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas. He married Marie Ward July 25, 1959. Two children, a son, Kenneth, and a daughter, Janet, were born to this union. James was a cattleman and a rancher. He worked many years on farms and ranches in the Oklahoma Panhandle and the Vega, Texas area for the Jay Taylor Cattle Company. He worked for the Oklahoma Department of Corrections for about 12 years, retiring in 2001. He married Frances Atchison June 29, 1986 in Hess, Oklahoma. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Olustee, enjoyed being a cowboy, working with cattle and horses and mainly just being ornery. James was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Frances, of Olustee, OK; a daughter, Janet Davis Thurston and husband, Bobby, of Fremont, NE; a son, Kenneth James Davis of Vega, TX; a stepdaughter, Marla Atchison of Oklahoma City, OK; two stepsons, Kevin Atchison and wife, Christie, of Melborne, FL, and Jay Atchison of Altus, OK; a sister, Sharon Rogers and husband, Monte, of Memphis, TX; five grandchildren, Jimmy Atchison and wife, Cindy, of Orlando, FL, Mike Atchison of Tallahassee, FL, R.J. McCray and wife, Shawna, of Vega, TX, Celeste Braker and husband, Chad, of Guthrie, TX, and Sarah Atchison of Melborne, FL; five great grandchildren; two aunts, Cressie Nester of Showlow, AZ, and Iris Davis of Memphis, TX; and a host of other family and friends. The family will receive friends on Tuesday night from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
