James Roy Easley, 73, Altus, passed away on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Jerry McCorkle officiating. Burial will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
James Roy Easley was born on April 20, 1945 in Baldwyn, Mississippi to Roy Ulysses and Dorothy Maxine (Dobbs) Easley. At a young age, he moved with the family to Oklahoma where he attended school. He graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford with a Master's Degree in Teaching. He married Mary Ella Medlock in Altus on July 8, 1967. James taught for two years in Tipton and the next 30 years at Roosevelt Elementary in Altus. While teaching, he was a basketball coach, a member of the PTA, Cub Scout and 4-H leader, and was active in the Science Fair. James also served in the Civil Air Patrol. He enjoyed art and painting, playing guitar, singing and church activities. James also loved being with his grandchildren and family.
His parents and a sister, Dorothy Easley, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Mary Ella Easley, of the home; a daughter, Misty Ellen Reo, of Altus, OK; a son, Christopher James Easley, of Altus, OK; five grandchildren, Jack and Chance Richardson, Darius Long, and Caitlin and Jeremy Easley; a sister, Mary Hipps of Blytheville, AR; and many other family members, friends and students over the years.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Monday at the funeral home.
