James "Jim" Thomas Jones

June 30, 1928 — March 12, 2023

James Thomas “Jim” Jones, 94, Altus, passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2023 in Altus. Services will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 16, 2023 in the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jason Duree officiating. Burial will follow at Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

Jim was born on June 30, 1928 to James B. and Emma Dolly (Lockey) Jones in Salisbury, North Carolina. As a young man he moved to Washington, D.C. where he began his studies in dental technology. In December 1946 he entered the Army Air Force serving as a Dental Lab Specialist.

While stationed at Sheppard Field in Wichita Falls, TX, Jim met Billy Sue Burt. She was the love of his life, and they were wed on June 17, 1950. They moved to Kansas City, Mo. after he was discharged and were there for only a short time when he was recalled to service for the Korean War. After his final discharge they moved to Dallas, TX. He was employed by Utley Dental Lab until June 1959 when he opened his own dental lab which he operated for 20 years.

After years as a dental technician, he retired to Altus and began farming. He loved and enjoyed farming for 10 years and said he was retiring for good, permanently.

Early in his life he developed a love for photography and anyone who knew him knew it was a passion he excelled at. He really liked digital photography and working with pictures on his computer. During retirement he put his love for photography and history to good use working alongside his beloved wife in various historical societies and events.

While attending Grace Church in Wichita Falls, TX he gave his life to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He loved the Lord and was always willing to share the Gospel. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Altus and taught Sunday School classes. Dad’s love for the Lord Jesus was evident till the very end as he was sharing the Gospel with doctors, nurses, and many people that he met on his final journey home.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sister; and his beloved wife of 59 years, Sue. He is survived by his daughter, Sibyl Porter and husband, Dale, of Altus; and host of family and friends, Joanne Jones, Laura Porter, Kelly and Mark Hendrix, Philip Porter; and dear friends to the family, Stacey Kiley and Robbie Robbins.

The family will greet friends beginning at 9:30 AM before the service. Online tributes may be made at kincannonfuneralhome.com. The service may be viewed at https://youtube.com/live/FWTp6GuJ9os?feature=share .
