James Ray “Jim” Singletary, 84, Altus, passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2022 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital. A memorial reception will be from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM Saturday, September 10, 2022 at the Kincannon Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
James Ray Singletary was born on January 24, 1938 in Dallas, Texas to Jack Carl and Lura Alone (Easterling) Singletary. He joined the United States Air Force in 1958 and long and distinguished career before retiring as a Technical Sergeant in 1978. James held two Bachelor’s Degrees in Education and Industrial Technology and a Master’s Degree in Counseling. He married Sumiko (Umeda) Stepanovich in Altus on August 9, 1981. She passed on October 8, 2015. James was a member of the Universal Life Church and Rotary. International. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed mechanics, computers, travel, history, people and photography. James was an avid firearm shooter, marksman and collector.
His wife; parents, two stepchildren, Kathy and Albert Stepanovich; a granddaughter, Nicki Delafuente; and a sister, Beth Blair; preceded him in death.
Survivors include five children, James Singletary, Jr., Mary Singletary, Antonia Singletary, Harry Singletary, and Kim Bearden and husband, Chris; ten grandchildren, Tony Delafuente and wife, Ruby, Rueben Delafuente, Mary Alice Delafuente, Jonathan Smith, Anthony David Smith, Alexander Bearden, Sarah Bearden, Jason Singletary, Kayla Singletary, and Vanessa Singletary; fifteen great grandchildren; a stepson, Joe Stepanovich and wife, Rhonda; four step grandchildren, Amanda Thorley and husband, Ryan, Blake Stepanovich and wife, Morgan, Dana Young, and Jessica Stepanovich; five step great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Sam Blair; and many other family members and friends.
