Jasper Allen Pruitt, 79, completed his journey on Earth Saturday, March 18, 2017 at his Altus residence. He returned to his Heavenly home and Creator after a lengthy battle with lung cancer. His devotion to family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.
Jasper was born to the late Claude and Dicy Pruitt in Reed, Oklahoma on October 28, 1937. The family relocated to farm land in Texas where he grew up in a large family. Jasper attended Lazbuddie High School and later served in the United States Army for 2 years. He made his career working as a Civil Service Mechanic with the United States government for 32 years until he retired. He spent the next 15 years working as a Security Guard for Bar-S in Altus, retiring in 2014.
Jasper was blessed with a loving family. He met the love of his life while working at a Muleshoe junkyard. This love led to a lifetime of happiness after marrying Wanda Joyce Williams on August 4, 1961 during a lunch break ceremony in Muleshoe, Texas. The family later made their home in Altus, Oklahoma where they raised two children. Jasper lived his life and raised his children with Christian principles. He was a loving husband and father, who always placed his faith and family above all else.
Jasper is survived by his wife, Wanda Joyce (Williams) Pruitt of Altus; two sons, Stanley A. Pruitt and his wife, Jamie, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Gerry D. Pruitt and his wife, Brenda, of Altus, Oklahoma; two brothers, George W. Pruitt and Johnny L. Pruitt, along with 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Edgar Pruitt and Dicy Mae (Sanders) Pruitt; two sisters, Joann Pruitt Miller and Thelma Pruitt Haney; and three brothers, Claude Edward Pruitt, Robert Carl Pruitt and Danny Bruce Pruitt.
Memorial services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at the Southside Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Duree officiating. Memorial services and cremation are under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
