Jean McCallay, 92, Altus, passed away on July 7, 2020 at her home. Funeral services have been scheduled for 2:00 PM Friday, July 10, 2020 in the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Tom Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in the Blair Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
Jean was born May 19, 1928 to William and Jewel Lea (Hunter) McElwee in Muskogee, Oklahoma. She attended school in Chicota, Texas and Blair, Oklahoma. Jean lived north of Paris, TX until she was fourteen then moved east of Blair with her family to farm. Jean and Irvan J. McCallay were united in marriage on May 20, 1947 in Vernon, Texas. To this union eleven children were born. Jean helped her husband run cafes at the Altus Hotel from 1957 to 1958, the Ranch House, west of Duke, OK from 1974 to 1986, and lastly the Tiger Café from 1988 - 1991. Jean loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jean loved to travel and some of her best times were traveling across the country with her family.
She enjoyed watching classic western TV shows. She loved going to church and was a member of the Elm & Hudson Church of Christ.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents, husband, five sisters, Wanda Lou Hutchinson, Sue Lockridge, Mary Beth Ware, Martha Adkins and Nell Emerson, and two brothers, Scott and Malcolm McElwee, and a great grandson, Evan.
She leaves behind four daughters, Barbara Ross and husband, John, Marlene Struck, Juanita Cole and husband, Leon, and Mary Morse; seven sons, Ronnie McCallay, David McCallay, Jeff McCallay and wife, Debbie, Sam McCallay, Vic McCallay, Leo McCallay and wife, Debra, and Jim McCallay; two sisters, Maxine Stover and Jeanene Williams; 17 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
