Services will be at 2:00 PM at the First Christian Church in Altus on Thursday, June 13th, with Pastor Jim Brown officiating. Burial will immediately follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
Jennifer Lynn Stakey was born on June 18, 1972, in Clare, Michigan to Theodore “Ted” and Dortha “Arlene” (Duffy) Stakey. She attended school there and would often tell stories about walking to school in blizzards, ice skating on frozen ponds, and everything being much greener there. During her senior year of high school her family relocated to Altus, Oklahoma where she graduated and met her husband, John Wilson. They wed on June 29, 1991, and together they built a beautiful life together and had two children, Jacy and Kade. Jennifer was a racecar mom, football mom, OSU mom, and a deputy's mom. She wore each hat with so much pride and loved her family deeply.
She enjoyed being outside and getting a good tan, going on cruises, flipping old finds into new decor, crafting, cooking and baking, and a good green fried tomato; but most of all she enjoyed simply being with her family. Despite not knowing how to swim she found so much joy and relaxation from being in the pool or out on the lake. To her, there was nothing, a little bit of sunshine and music couldn’t fix. Generous, caring, giving, and loving are just a few words to describe her. Jennifer’s genuine hugs spoke volumes and could cure any bad day no matter what was happening. She would spend her last dollar making sure others were taken care of, had what they needed, or to ensure her kids had the best Christmas imaginable. Her last and greatest accomplishment was being promoted to Grandma to her two grandsons, Kordell and Kooper.
Jennifer worked at First National Bank until 1994, and then spent many years traveling the country with John and their kids in the semi. She began her 19-year career at the Jackson County Courthouse on January 6, 2005, in the Election Board office where she was appointed as the Board Secretary in 2007 and held that position until her passing. The courthouse crew quickly became like family, and she appreciated each of them greatly.
She is proceeded in death by her parents, Ted and Arlene. Jennifer’s memory will live on in her husband of 33 years, John; daughter, Jacy Kerr and husband, Kaleb; son, Jonathan Kade Wilson and wife, Amanda (Coffman); two grandsons, Kordell Wilson and Kooper Kerr; along with a long list of relatives and friends she considered family.
