Jessie R. Brown, Sr.

Jessie R. Brown, Sr., 88, formerly of Olustee, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, September 29, 2017 in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, October 7, 2017 in the Kincannon Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the Olustee Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

He was born May 5, 1929 to Robert and Nealie (Brinkley) Brown in Utica, OK. On June 5, 1961 he married Margaret Joye in Long Beach, California. Jess retired in 1969 after a long and decorated career in the military that started with his serving as part of the Army’s occupation forces in Japan at the end of World War II. He would never allow himself to be called a WWII era veteran because he had not served in actual combat. He later joined the US Navy, and saw his share of combat (most notably in Korea and Vietnam). Jess truly loved the Navy and his country. Jess enjoyed and loved his family, immediate and extended, above all other things. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, and helping others. His favorite pastime was Skyping with his sister-in-law, Jean Brown, almost every night as they played video games on his favorite website, Pogo.com. He would privately admit that Jean was a much better player than he was at almost every game they played.

Jess is survived by his children: Berthamae Erland and her husband, Brian, Thomas Brown and his wife, Debra, and Jessie Brown, Jr. and his wife, Patricia. Jess is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends that he cherished and loved dearly.

A viewing and time of gathering will be held on Friday, October 6 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Kincannon Funeral Home.
