Jimmy Lee Higgs, 79, Amarillo, Texas, passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2015 in Amarillo, Texas. Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Monday, April 13, 2015 at the Altus City Cemetery with Synott Matthews officiating. Services and burial have been entrusted to the Kincannon Funeral Home. Jimmy Lee Higgs was born at the family home in Altus, Oklahoma on September 15, 1935 to James and Leida (Cyphers) Higgs. He graduated from Altus High School. Jimmy and June Jackson were married on January 17, 1965 in Vernon, TX. He served several years in the Army Reserve and was very proud of his service to his country. Jimmy and June made their home in Amarillo, Texas. He worked for Panhandle Gravel most of his life and medically retired from JM Huber in Borger, Texas. Jimmy was a car enthusiast, especially antique Thunderbirds. He was a member of many car clubs, loved to read and was a collector of many things. He loved animals and rescued many in his lifetime. Most of all he was a master conversationalist and never met a stranger. Jimmy leaves behind his wife, June, of the home; son, Steve and wonderful daughter-in-law, Charlotte; two grandsons, Jordan and wife, Jessica, and Dylan; one great-grandson, Owen; three nephews, Kal Higgs and wife, Dana, Richie Higgs and wife, Shari, and Mike Higgs; eleven great nieces and nephews and ten great-great nieces and nephews. He also leaves two pet children, Goldie and Penny. The Higgs family will greet friends Sunday, April 12, 2015 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at the Kincannon Gathering Room. The Higgs family requests memorials be made to the Animal Rescue Shelter, 12500 S. FM 1541, Amarillo, Texas 79118.
