JoAnn (Smith) Chester, 77, Altus, passed away on Friday, March 08, 2013 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Monday, March 11, 2013 in the Kincannon Funeral Home with Bill Estep officiating. Burial will be in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home. JoAnn Smith was born on December 24, 1935 in Elmer, Oklahoma to Sam and Ola (Shipley) Smith. She married Allie Chester on November 15, 1952 in Frederick, Oklahoma. She was a homemaker and loved spending time with her kids and grandkids. She was a member of the Altus Church of God for over 50 years. JoAnn enjoyed sewing, reading, fishing and volunteering for church activities. She especially loved taking care of her dogs, Ginger and Chigger. Her parents, husband, a son, Danny Chester, three brothers, Junior, Charles and Gene Smith, and two sisters, Wanda Houston and Sue York, preceded her in death. Survivors include four sons, Dennis Chester and wife, Donna, of Iowa Park, Texas, Donnie Chester and wife, Mary, of Iowa Park, Texas, Shannon Chester and Dwight Chester, both of Altus, Oklahoma; 13 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; a brother, Bobby Smith and wife, Donna, of Altus, Oklahoma; two sisters, Linda Tidwell of Altus, Oklahoma, and Barbara Blankenship and husband, David, of Altus, Oklahoma; and many other family and friends. Memorial contributions may be made to the Altus Church of God, 900 S. Park Lane, Altus, Oklahoma 73521. The family will receive friends from 3:00 – 5:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Additional parking is available behind the funeral home, Best Western to the south and Western Sizzlin’ to the north.
